Evening Dinner With A Father.

A son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner.  Father being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on his shirt and trousers.  Other diners watched him in disgust while his son was calm.

After he finished eating, his son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took him to the washroom, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed his hair and fitted his spectacles firmly.  When they came out, the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves publicly like that.  The son settled the bill and started walking out with his father.

At that time, an old man amongst the diners called out to the son and asked him, “Don’t you think you have left something behind?”.

The son replied, “No sir, I haven’t”.

The old man retorted, “Yes, you have!  You left a lesson for every son and hope for every father”.

The restaurant went silent.

Elicit Cooperation.

The chairman of an automobile company was confronted with  the necessity of infusing enthusiasm into a discouraged and disorganized group of automobile salesmen. Calling a sales meeting, he urged his men to tell him exactly what they expected from him. As they talked, he wrote their ideas on the blackboard. He then said,
"I'll give you all these qualities you expect from me. Now I want you to tell me what I rightfully can expect from you?"
The replies from  the salesmen came thick and fast: loyalty, honestly, initiative, optimism, team work, and eight hours a day of enthusiastic work. One man Volunteered to work fourteen hours a day. The meeting ended with added strength and new found inspiration and in course of time, the sales increased phenomenally.

Implication Of This Story: The methodology used by the chairman was unique. Instead of commanding the salesmen to do this and that, he volunteered to fulfill their needs first and thereby elicited their cooperation to do what he wanted them to do.

Then the monks continued their walk. but the other monk started complaining. "Surely it is not right to touch a woman; it is against the commandments to have close contact with women; how can you go against the rules for the monks?"
The complainant bemoaned endlessly. the monk who carried the girl walked along silently, but finally he remarked,
" I let her down by the river. But why are you still carrying her?"

The advertising director introduced a point-of-sales scheme that would "revolutionize the industry". The sales director extolled the virtues of "the best damn sales force in the business".Finally it was time for the president to go the podium and make his closing remarks.
"Over the past few days" , he began, "We've heard from all our division heads their wonderful plans for the coming year. Now we draw to a close, I have only one question. If we have the best advertising, the best marketing strategy, the best sale force, how come we sell less dog food than anyone else in the business?"
There was pin-drop silence in the convention hall. Finally, after what seemed like forever, a weak voice answered from the back of the room.
        "Because, dogs hate it."
